Lose weight and get in shape. Does that sound familiar? I’ve set that goal every year for over a decade and I’m not apologizing for it even if I never fully reach the goal I’ve set. I never want to give in and give up on taking better care of myself. But that’s not the goal I want to talk about in this post.

Why do we set goals in the first place? Usually, we want to change our life for the better in some way or another. We’ll, the one goal I set and keep every year has definitely changed my life and I believe it will change your life, too!

Reading through the Bible in a year has been a goal I've set every year since 2001. For sure it's not the only goal I set (I love to set goals!) but it's definitely the one I always keep! 2001 was a life-changing year for me in a lot of ways and I'm glad it's the year I finally read through the Bible for the first time. Since then, I've continued to make reading through the Bible a yearly goal. Some years have been better than others but one thing I know for sure---having that as a goal means I read the Bible more and know God better, even if I miss a few days and fall behind.

The One Goal that will Change Your Life

Reading through the Bible in a year has been a goal I’ve set every year since 2001. For sure it’s not the only goal I set (I love to set goals!) but it’s definitely the one I always keep! 2001 was a life-changing year for me in a lot of ways and I’m glad it’s the year I finally read through the Bible for the first time. Click here to read more about that. Since then, I’ve continued to make reading through the Bible a yearly goal. Some years have been better than others but one thing I know for sure—having that as a goal means I read the Bible more and know God better, even if I miss a few days and fall behind.

The real goal is not to say “I read through the Bible in a year”, (even though that’s a huge accomplishment) but the real goal is to experience the life-changing power of God’s Word, to have a hundred “Aha!” and “Wow” moments as you get to know the God of the Bible.

For years God has invited me to join Him in this work. I’ve written a few blog posts and encouraged others to read through the Bible on social media but this year I’m taking a bigger step of faith.

(I rescue old Bibles from estate sales and thrift stores. Aren’ they beautiful!)

Your Special Invitation

Read through the Bible in a Year–Stacy Averette is a private Facebook group I created to provide inspiration and encouragement to anyone who wants to read through the Bible in a year or just read and understand the Bible more this year than ever before.

(If you’re not on Facebook keep reading. I have an easy way for you to access the videos right here on the blog.)

Consider this your special invitation to join the group and I hope you’ll invite others to join, too. On Facebook, search for “Read through the Bible in a Year–Stacy Averette” and click the blue “invite” button when you find the FB group. You can invite anyone who’s on your “friends” list to join the group, too! There are no requirements to join or to stay in the group. You don’t have to check-in or do homework or comment.

Each evening I give a reading prompt for the next day and then mid-morning I share a short video about what I loved and learned from the day’s reading. (This is a big step of faith for me.  I don’t love doing videos. I’m much more comfortable hiding behind the screen or communicating face-to-face.) But I know God is always at work around us and I want to join Him even if it means getting out of my comfort zone!

I’d love for you to share in the group what you’re learning too but it’s not a requirement!

It’s Never Too Late to Start

You might be thinking, “I’ve waited too late to start”. But you haven’t, friend! You can start with today’s reading and keep going until next year at this time and you will have read the Bible in a year! Nothing says you have to start in January and finish in December.

There are two ways to get a printable copy of the Bible reading plan I follow:

    1. Click the “Resources” tab in the menu at the top of this page. You’ll find a clickable link to a printable Google document. I love having a reading list I can check off each day.
    2. In the Facebook group, there’s a post I made at the beginning that has a link to the same printable Google document. Just click the link and you’ll be able to print or save it on your device.

For those of you who aren’t on Facebook, I’ll be posting the videos here on the blog, too. Click the “Faith” tab and then click the  “Read through the Bible” tab that drops down.  You’ll find links to Bible reading related posts plus each day’s video encouragement.

I hope you’ll decide to read the Bible more this year than you did in the past. Don’t worry if you don’t understand everything you read. Neither do I! Don’t worry if you miss a day or a week. Let it go and start again with the current day’s reading.

God will honor your commitment to be in His Word! He will speak, teach, guide, comfort, and probably convict you a little, too. He’s a good, good Father who knows and loves you MORE BETTER than anyone ever has and ever will.

Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest is another place we can connect if you like. If you’re on your phone scroll to the very bottom of this page and you’ll see the social media icons. If you’re on a laptop they’re at the top of the page. I love to share what I learn, the treasures I find while thrifting, and other fun stuff along the way.
