As a seasoned thrifter who’s traveled to and through this town many times, I know the 5 best thrift stores in and around Guntersville, Alabama. Guntersville is a great road trip destination and if you love a long day of thrifting as much as I do plus some good food in a casual atmosphere to end the day, this post will point you in the right direction.
Where in the World is Guntersville?
Guntersville is located in northeast Alabama on the southernmost point of the Tennessee River and is surrounded by 69,000 acres of water. There’s a beautiful state park, golf courses, a bed and breakfast, and antiquing, if you’re looking for a weekend getaway.
A sunny Saturday is the perfect day to make the short drive from our home to Guntersville, thrifting and eating along the way. Over the years we’ve taken several road trips with Guntersville as our final destination. The sunset lake views are amazing!
Guntersville is also a halfway point for us and some of our dear Tennessee friends. We’ve found it’s a great location to meet and eat and spend the day catching up in a shady spot near the lake.
So whether you’re headed to Guntersville to stay a while or just passing through, I think my recommendations of where to eat and thrift will make your trip more fun.
Where To Eat Near Guntersville, Alabama
If you’re from the South and like to fish, you’ve probably already heard of Guntersville. You may have even been boating on the beautiful lake. (Our Tennessee friend loves fishing at Lake Guntersville.) I love the lake but much to my father’s disappointment, fishing has never been my thing. I don’t know much about fishing but I know about good casual dining, especially after a long day of thrifting.
These five places have great service, a fun atmosphere, and delicious food. It’s easy to see why they’re so popular.
1. City Harbor at Lake Guntersville
City Harbor has 55,000 square feet of restaurants, entertainment, retail outlets, hospitality, and more. You can book a suite or condo for an overnight stay and the harbor has you covered if you arrive by boat. You can check out their website for more information.
There are at least 5 restaurants located at City Harbor: Another Broken Egg, Big Mike’s Steakhouse, La Esquina Cocina, Levi’s on the Lake, and The Brewers Cooperative. We’ve eaten at several of these restaurants and you can’t go wrong with any of them but we have a favorite . . .
2. The Brewer’s Cooperative (Now Nash’s). The atmosphere is fun and casual, the service is great, and the food is delicious. We love their wings but have tried just about everything on the menu. From salads to burgers, everything is good! And if craft beer is your thing they have a great selection. They offer outdoor, pet-friendly dining as well.
3. Rockhouse Eatery is an old favorite. Creative Southern cuisine is provided in a stone cottage with quaint decor & an outdoor patio.
4. Moody Brews Coffee and Lounge is a traditional coffeehouse space but don’t let the simple exterior fool you.
When you step inside the warm, cozy, coffee-scented space you know you’ve found the perfect place to think, dream, and chat!
Their beans are locally roasted and freshly delivered which explains why our cups of Americano were so delicious. Moody Brews was the perfect end to a long day.
5. Jules J. Berta Vineyards in Albertville is a short drive from Guntersville but well worth it. This is an award-winning winery with the best pizza around. The outdoor dining space is amazing and is a magical setting for a special date night or family gathering.
We love this place! Be sure to check their website for winery/pizza hours.
The 5 Best Thrift Stores Near Guntersville, Alabama
If you find me near Guntersville, I’ll be roaming the aisles of my favorite thrift store and rearranging the car to make room for more treasures. Here’s a list of my favorite thrift stores near Guntersville.
1. Goodwill Boaz is one of our first stops on a trip to Guntersville. Don’t let the small storefront fool you. This space is large and nicely arranged and the staff is always super friendly. Rarely do I leave this store without a treasure in hand. The few parking spaces out front are always filled so I’m thankful my chauffeur offers curbside service. He drops me off at the door and says, “Take your time and have fun!”
2. Shepherd’s Cove in Albertville is another favorite. They describe their store as an “upscale department store style thrift shop” with gently-used items. The Shoppe provides an additional source of revenue for Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, a non-profit agency, to continue to provide care to our community. I’ve found lots of good treasures at great prices over the years.
3. Downtown Rescue Mission Thrift Store is also in Albertville just up the road from Shepherd’s Cove. Saturday was a 50% off day so I couldn’t pass up the cutest jacket!
4. Home Place Thrift Store is our next stop in downtown Guntersville. I always stop because you never know what you might find! Perfect example: a heavy old mirror that was only $5! I think the desilvering affected the price but that’s what I love about it. You can see it in the background in the photo below.
5. Goodwill Guntersville is usually our last stop of the day before we break for lunch. I’ve found countless treasures for myself and others at this store. If you’re looking for gently used high-end, brand clothing this is the place. Unique clothing and vintage pieces catch my eye and I find those, too.
I hope you’ve found this post about where to eat and thrift near Guntersville, Alabama helpful. If you’re planning a trip to Guntersville and have questions let me know. I’ve made the trip often and would love to help.
