“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.” Acts 20:22

I desire to live Spirit-filled and Spirit-led. But I must confess that I want to know—I live as if I must know—what will happen to me. I want to know the results, the outcome, and the rest of the story before I embark on the Spirit’s leading. At the very least, I often imagine the outcome; and, of course, I always imagine the very best for my sake. But as we all know, this life does not always go as planned, at least not as I’ve planned.

God is never surprised.

Why am I?

No doubt because I have lost sight of life’s ultimate task—to testify to the good news of God’s grace (v.24). And that I must do no matter what happens to me.

The days when testing is severe and trials seem unbearable are most likely the days when our testimony of the good news of God’s grace may have its greatest impact.

“And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there.”
