Sanctify the Ordinary
Today I will sanctify the ordinary. I will seek to find true spiritual meaning in the common things of life.
I don’t want to be blasé. I don’t want to be one of the overstimulated whose nerves are jaded and tastes corrupted. I don’t want to replace the natural with the artificial, secularize the sacred, vulgarize the holy, or long for entertainment instead of worship.
I don’t want to constantly seek some new excitement and miss the wonder right in front of me.
Today I will once again consecrate my life to Christ and do everything in His name and for His sake.
Con•se•crate verb: to declare to be sacred or holy
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Colossians 3:23-24
- Be married as if for the Lord.
- Do your job as if for the Lord.
- Parent as if for the Lord.
- Attend church as if for the Lord.
- Be a citizen of your community as if for the Lord.
I think you get the picture.
Consecrate your life to Christ. Do everything as if you are doing it for Christ.
I know your spouse may need to change. Your boss may need to change. Maybe your workplace needs to change. Your children may need to change. Your church may need to change. Your community may need to change.
But what do you need to do?
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
Consecrate your life to Christ, again and again, day after day, and you will find true meaning, contentment, fulfillment, peace, and joy. Get to know the God of the Bible by reading His Word each day.
I’m here to help if you need it.
