Wikipedia defines lie as an intentionally false statement to a person or group made by another person or group who knows it is not wholly the truth. Lies can be told for various reasons, and with various amounts of success.
“Liar, liar pants on fire ” may be said in a joking manner during a conversation but lying is a serious offense. Most of us have been wounded by the lies of a co-worker, close friend or family member. According to one study, 60 percent of people lie at least once during a 10-minute conversation and tell an average of two to three lies.
Google “lie” and you get 477,000,000 results. I didn’t look at most of them but I read enough to know there’s a lot of discussion about lies and lying. Jesus made one thing very clear about lying:
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44
How about some Truth?
Never ever.
He can. Not. Lie.
What a comfort to know in a world ruled by the Father of Lies that the One who lives in me is faithful. He is God and He cannot lie.
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? Numbers 23:19
God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
Hebrews 6:18
We, who have run for our very lives to God, have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go.
