Marriage Monday ~ Marriage Problems

God’s Plan for Marriage

God’s plan for marriage is not a mystery. He states His plan clearly in the opening chapters of His Word.

So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Verse 24 teaches us about the permanence of marriage. A man is admonished to hold fast to his wife. The Hebrew word has the idea of joining or gluing two things together and it’s God who does the gluing.

The Problems in Our Marriage

The two main problems in our marriage are Eric and Stacy. Two different people with two different personalities trying to live as one continues to be the greatest challenge (and joy) of our lives. But we are committed to God’s plan for marriage and we rely daily on His help.

Adrian Rogers in Ten Secrets to a Successful Family says this:

People say, We got divorced because we had problems.” I have news for you. People who stay married and people who get divorced have basically the same kinds of problems. The difference is not in the problems. The difference is in the commitment to solving them.

The Commitment We Make

On March 6, 1987, we were united in holy matrimony in the presence of many witnesses. We haven’t said our vows again since that day but we have continuously renewed our commitment to one another year after year.

  • We are committed to solving our problems with the Lord’s help.
  • We place a priority on our marriage relationship that is above our priority to anything else including our children.
  • We commit to grow spiritually through prayer and Bible reading.

The first miracle Jesus performed was at a wedding (John 2:1-11). He performed another miracle on March 6, 1987 at our wedding and the miracle continues.

When you give yourself to obey God and His plan for your life, He will bless you and your marriage.

Will you renew your commitment to God today and invite Him to help you solve your marriage problems?

We would love to hear from you. Share a prayer request. Ask a question. Leave a comment.
